Jessee is the one who went to Virginia after John Sparks had murdered Hugh and James H. Boggs. He left Sparks for dead; however, he did recover.

Following notes from Russell Busic:
Jesse married Nancy in Lee Co., VA before moving to Lawrence Co., KY. He later returned to Wise Co., VA to live.
The Virginia State Library in Richmond records that Jesse, while residing in Wise Co., enlisted in Company F, 29th Regiment, Virginia Infantry, Confederate States of America, on December 18, 1861 at Wise Co., Courthouse. He was mustered into service as a Private. On July 5, 1862 he was discharged, at age 35. He also served in the 10th Regiment, Kentucky Infantry, C.S.A.
***
John L. Sparks was a member of Company M, 10th Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A., and rather than return home to surrender after the end of the war, he came home for blood. He murdered Hugh and James H. Boggs while they were in their field at the mouth of Collier Creek, near the Martha, Kentucky post office. According to local tradition, Sparks rode away wearing a fine pair of boots he pulled off Hugh Boggs' body. It is said afterwards he sent the Boggs family a taunting message boasting of his deed. Sparks eventually fled to Wise Co., VA. Subsequently, Jesse Boggs rode up while Sparks was working his land and shot him down without mercy. Although left for dead, Sparks recovered. Ironically, Jesse had served as a member of the 29th Virginia Infantry and in the 10th Kentucky Cavalry with Sparks during the last days of the war.

157. Lorenzo Dow Boggs

Source: Paul Boggs
This information comes from a John Holbrook, BroJhnaaa@Juno.com. G-G-Grandson of Dow Boggs.
Dow was real smart, but while leading troops in NC he caught a fever and was never the same. He was a well digger and some say he caught a sickness digging wells. At any rate, Dow was a legend along Cain Creek. His mind was bad and when Regina died at mid-life, Dow began to lose touch with reality.
His children was scattered among relatives, and he wandered from place to place. He had a good sense of humor even if his mind was bad. Dow would ofton show up at meal tome to eat. Once, while at his brothers home, there was only one piece of meat, while his brother (a preacher) offered up a lengthy blessing, Dow ate the meat. After the prayer, his brother looked up to see his meat was gone! "Dow, you have ate my ham!" Dow replied, "well brother, the bible do say to Watch And Pray!"
Dow died in the Lawrence Co., KY poor house, believing it to be the White House, and believing he was the President of the United States.
Regina was an unfaithful wife, stepping out on Dow several times. Their children may have been fathered by a Williams.
Dow was a strong built man with a thick bull like neck, square face and bald head. He had a wart like mole on his lower cheeck, his moustache grew staight down over a large mouth with a very red lower lip that rolled out.
Dow was a teen during the war, so the story about the war may not be right, but he did follow his brothers to the Army Camps.
Dow's brother, Hugh, and 16 year old cousin James, were murdered as they worked in their cornfield, by John Sparks in 1866, reason unknown.
Dow followed along as his brother Jesse pursued Sparks into Virginia and was present, and may have assisted, when Jesse killed Sparks.
It is said that Dow followed his brothers into war and was with them through the war even though he was too young to serve officially.
Ray Williams, who grew up on Cains Creek, said that Dow was a legend along the Creek. Ray said that in his family, to be called a "Dow" meant that you were crazy. He said that he went to school one day and some kids were playing jokes on him. He told the teacher that they were trying to make a "Dow" out of him. The poor teacher did not understand and went to Ray's mother to find out what the problem might be. Ray's mother had to explain what it meant to be "Dowed". From Ray Williams, as told to David Church. Marriage notes: The marriage license for Dow and Regina states that they were both single at the time of the marriage, Dow was 23 and Regina 19. Dow said his place of birth was Russell Co., VA and Regina said her birthplace was in Lee Co., VA. Dow's parents were William and Ann Boggs. Regina's parents were Henry and Margaret Sargent. A certified copy of the license is in the possession of John Holbrook at brojhn@juno.com. The name "Lorenzo Dow" comes from a traveling preacher by the same name, a lots of people name their sons Lorenzo Dow
