Lora Hernandez notes:These are the stories that Goldie has told me of Grandpa Kelly. Goldie's father was killed when she was
very young. Grandpa Kelly was living with his daughter Durshie, whose husband had died, and helping
her to raise and feed her family. He moved in with his daughter Laura (Goldie's mom) and helped to raise her children also. Kelly helped raise three families, his and two of his daughters. Goldie talks about how once a month they used to go out into the woods and gather all types of roots and tree bark. Kelly would take them back and brew up a batch, place it in a jar and take two to three tablespoons a day. It must have worked because he was never sick until he became old and died. Goldie also remembers going to church every Sunday with Kelly. They would ride to church on the family horse. Kelly's brother Wilson Church was a preacher. Goldie says that every night Kelly would gather the children before bedtime and tell them stories. Her memories of Grandpa Kelly are very precious to her. From all I have heard he was a very good man.

Cousin Lora has spoken true of Grandpa Mathias Kelly Church, his daughter Elizabeth known to many as Aunt Betz is my gg grandmother. Those of us who have grown up hearing about Kelly have always heard nothing but good things about him and that is something considering some of the other not often talked about relatives some of us had back then, though we claim them all and are ashamed of none..
In my families contact Kelly was cherished as a loving grandfather who always held the kids and truly
loved being with family.. if there was ever a man born who cared about his kin that would be Kelly..
Out of all my ancestors Grandpa Kelly is the most often spoken of and best remembered. Considering
there are not many still living who knew him personally it is a great testimony of the man and his life
when his gg - ggg - gggg grandchildren still know of him .

Surviving are one son, Dillard S., Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Tressie May Johnson, Route 1, Ozark; two stepsons, Charles D. Hall, Creve Coeur, Ill. and Marine S-Sgt. Jimmy Joe Johnson, San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Anna Gunn, Route 1, Ozark, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Harris Chapel at Ozark with the Rev. Hubert Swearengin officiating. Burial will be in Bruner Cemetery.

Inez Gertrude Moses, daughter of Samuel Moses and Ida Kissee was born near Sparta, Mo., on May 3, 1903. She was first united in marriage to William Hall to which union two children were born, one son, Charles Delbert Hall, and one daughter who preceded her mother in death. She was later united in marriage to William Joseph Maggard, to which union were born four children, one son, Dillard Samuel, and three daughters, only one of whom survives, Tressa Mae Maggard, the other two having preceded their mother in death. Beside the husband and children she is survived by two brothers, Rex Moses and Ernest Moses, both of near Sparta, and by one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Bilyeu, of Springfield, and by her father, Samuel Moses, of near Sparta. Her mother preceded her in death nine years ago. She passed away at her home east of Burner on Friday, April 8, 1938, after an attack of pneumonia. She was aged 34 years, 10 months and eight days [UNREADABLE] Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 1938, in the Church of Christ in Sparta with the Rev. Elmer Butler of Rogersville officiating. Interment was made in the Sparta Cemetery under the direction of the B.C. Klepper Funeral Home of Ozark.

Date: November 26, 2001 at 22:40:42Roxie I talked to my Great Aunt this weekend. Delila Maggard and Elihu Sergeant are my GGrandparents. I could not find when they got married in Letcher Co., KY. She pronounces his name Elihu. She said that he was Indian (Cherokee).
Delila was born April 9 1865 Died Feb 1 1941, Elihu was Born on March 20,1852, Died Aug 7 1930, they are buried at Bolling Cemetery in Wise Va. She said that they had 4 girls and 3 boys..Girls Lucinda, Margaret, Malissie, Sylvania, Boys Ervin, Wilks, James. I met Uncle Wilks in the late 1971. He was living in Washington at that time. He moved back to Wise Va some time after that. He died at my grandmothers Mallie Phillips house and is buried I think at the Phillips Cemetery in Wise. She could not remember who he married. Maybe we will get that later. Locinda is my GGrandmother Married to Wilson R Sturgill on May 14, 1896, found in Sturgill marriages in Wise Co, Virginia (Shadybanks.net/vickie/Sturgillmarriages.htm) They are also buried at Bolling Cemetery.
