History of Present Illness:
Patient is a 58 year old Caucasian male, with a history of small cell cancer of the lungs, status post radiation and chemotherapy. The patient reported increased fatigue, fever and cough productive of yellowish sputum, over the week prior to admission. The patient ws initially seen at the emergency dept. in Tooele, and subsequently transferred to LDS Hosp. for further treatment of presumed pneumonia.
Past Medical History:
Significant for small cell carcinoma of the lung, leading to radiation and chemotherapy, and subsequent radiation pneumonitis.
Social History:
Patient had smoked one and a half packs per day over 34 years, but had reportedly quit smoking approximately one to two years prior to admission. The patient worked as a maintenance worker, and was in the process of moving from Texas to Portland, and was visiting relatives in Tooele.On 2/15/99 all medical support was withdrawn, and the patient experienced a quick decline over the next several minutes, and was pronounced dead at 1042 hours.
