Obituary of Brack Combs

Brack (Coal Miner) Combs, age 88 of Nashville, Arkansas, passed away, Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in Nashville. He was born July 4, 1924 in Ermine, Kentucky to the late Harrison and Matilda Reynolds Combs. Mr. Combs was a retired coal miner of over 32 years. He was a member of Temperanceville Baptist Church in Nashville. He loved gardening, telling stories and spending time with his grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his parents, a daughter, Mary Elaine Gibson of Kona, Kentucky, a son, James Michael Combs of Kentucky, 3 sisters, Cassie Adams of Kentucky, Eunice Adams of Kentucky, and Lucille Cox of Ozan, Arkansas. Also, 4 brothers, Smith, Jack, Harry Combs all of Kentucky and Flem Combs of Nashville, Arkansas. His survivors include his wife, Millie Holbrook Combs of Nashville 2 sons, Rodney and wife Kathy Combs of Nashville. Mark Combs of Nashville 1 step-son, Steven Morton of Nashville. 2 daughters, Diane and husband David Powell of Nashville. Vonda and husband Ned Craft of Indiana 1 step-daughter, Donna and husband Adrian Maggard of Whitesburg, Kentucky 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, Several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Graveside services will be Friday, May 24, 2013 at 2 pm at New Corinth Cemetery near Nashville with Bro. Larry Sherman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday night from 6 to 8 pm.

The obituary of Oma Ruth Combs as published in the April 22, 1965, issue of The Mountain Eagle (page 9): Mrs. Oma Ruth Combs of Millstone succumbs Funeral services for Mrs. Oma Ruth Combs, 40, wife of Brack Combs, Millstone, were conducted at the chapel of Blair Funeral Home in Whitesburg by Elders I. D. Back, Manus Ison and Bill Sparks. Burial was in the UZ cemetery at the mouth of Dry Fork. Mrs. Combs died April 14 at the Harlan hospital. She had been ill for several months. Survivors besides her husband are four daughters, Mrs. Donna Carol Maggard, Thornton; Mary Elaine, Vonda Faye and Linda Diane Combs, all of Millstone; six brothers, Watson Cornett, Cumberland; Roy Cornett, Banks; John Gay Cornett, Partridge; I. D., Vernon and Blaine Cornett, all of Whitesburg; a sister, Mrs. Eunice Morrison, Carcassonne; and a grandson. Her tombstone inscription reads: Mother Ruth Combs Feb 20 1925 Apr 14 1965 Gone From Our Home Not From Our Heart.
