Rev. Jesse Bowling born 22 May 1758 at Hillsboro, NC, died 10 Mar 1841
on Quicksand Creek, Breathitt Co, KY.Jesse served in the North Carolina and Virginia Militia during the Revolution and was a baptist preacher and was County Judge of Perry
County, KY 1821-1838.Jesse was married twice, both times in Wilkes Co, NC. He md 1st,
about 1776, Polly Green who died in 1778. They had one son, John E.

After his second marriage Jesse lived in NC until 1793, then went to
Hawkins Co, TN. While living there Jesse was baptised and ordained an
elder in the Primitive Baptist Church by Rev. Andrew Baker, at the
Blackwater Church.In 1795 Jesse and his family moved to Lee Co, VA. He was pastor of
the old Stony Creek Church at Ft. Blackmore.In 1810 Jesse and his family, and his father and his brother William
moved to the North Fork of the Kentucky River, just above Grapevine
Creek, in what was then a part of Clay County, KY.In 1810 Rev. Dan Duff and his family came from Harlan County and
bought land adjoining that of Jesse so he and Jesse could work in the
church together. About 1835 Dan moved to Quicksand Creek. In 1838 Jesse
and his wife also moved to Quicksand, near Dan, where they spent the
remainder of their lives. Jesse is believed to be buried in one of the
small graveyards at the mouth of Meatscaffold Creek, on Quicksand.Some of Jesse's brothers and sisters, William and Hannah (Mrs. Soloman Osborne) also lived in Clay Co, KY at one time. James Bowling

Jesse Bowling S14974: State Of Kentucky - Clay County
On the 22nd of October 1832 personally appeared in open court before Joseph Eve, Judge of the Clay Circuit Court now sitting, Jesse Bowling,
a resident of Clay County and The State of Kentucky, aged 74 years and
five months, who being sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of An Act Of Congress passed June 7, 1832.That he entered the service of the U. S. in December 1780, in Wilkes
Co., NC as a volunteer Revolutionary soldier in the office of a
Sargeant and served a tour of three months in a company commanded by
Capt. William Hall, which battalion was commanded by Major Joseph
Phillips. and was marched to Salisbury and there stationed and
deployed in guarding british prisoners and tories and after some time
marched with the prisoners and tories from Salisbury toward the
Virginia line, the british in pursuit, crossed the Yadkin River and cut
loose the boats to prevent the british crossing, at which place he was
discharged, having served his full tour of three months as aforesaid.That he again entered the Revolutionary service as a drafted soldier
in the spring of 1781, and he thinks in the month of March, for a tour of three months. he resided in Wilkes County, North Carolina, and was
attached to a company commanded by Capt. John Cleveland and was appointed and served as Sargeant in the company - which company was
attached to a battalion commanded by Major Benjamin Henderson and Col. Benjamin Cleveland commanded the regiment. That the troops mrched from Wilkes County down the Yadkin River to the Trading Ford, and were
there employed in guarding and reconnoitering the country against the invasion of the British, until he was regularly discharged.In July or August 1781, in Grayson County, Virginia, he again
volunteered as a light horse soldier, under Capt. Stinson, whose company was attached to the command of Col. Arthur Campbell, who was
the chief commander of the troops. This expedition was intended to
guard against the depredation of the tories, on the south line of
Wilkes County under a certain James Roberts. They found that the tories
had dispersed, and when they reconnoitered the country to that
quarter, they returned to Grayson County and he was discharged. he
stated that he served for two months on this expedition and found his own horse.That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the
pension roll of the agency of any state.

deposition: that we believe him to be 74 years of age and that he is
