1892. Alvin Caudill

Caudill, Alvin 95 of Melvin, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born August 28, 1907 in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Wilburn and Elizabeth Johnson Caudill. He was a retired coal miner and member of UMWA Local Union No. 5988 of Wheelwright; and a member of Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church at Melvin. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearlie Slone Caudill. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Terry Caudill of Somerset. Other survivors include four sons, Elmer Ray Caudill, Donald Caudill and Joseph Caudill, all of Elkhart, Indiana, and Ralph Caudill of Syracuse, Indiana; five daughters, Melva Newman of Hi Hat, Mavis Mounts and Bonnie Blankenship both of Columbus, Ohio and Helen Johnson and Claudetta Edwards, both of Elkhart, Indiana; 24 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James Caudill; two daughters, Wilma Jean Caudill and Jewel Caudill; six brothers, Troy Caudill, Milburn Caudill, Jarvey Caudill, Corbit Caudill, Cleveland Caudill and Calvin Caudill; and a sister, Mary Jane Cole. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 8, at 11 a.m. at Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church at Melvin, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will be in the Newman Cemetery at Hi Hat, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin. Visitation is at the church, with nightly services at 7 p.m.

Caudill, Bennie J 86, of Miamisburg, OH, formerly of Lackey [Floyd Co., KY], died Thursday, March 8, 1979 in the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle, Ohio. Born April 1, 1892 in Hollybush [Knott Co., KY], he was a son of the late Hardin and Mary Slone Caudill. He was a retired self-employed carpenter and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Cora Mullins Caudill, in 1969. Surviving him are three sons, Cardo and Claird Caudill, both of Lackey, and Hetric Caudill, in Massachusetts; four daughters, Mrs. Knonah Hicks, of Covington, Mrs. Esta Strouch, of Cincinnati, OH, Mrs. Zeima Williams, of Carlisle, OH, Delkie Caudill, of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Mrs. Dealie Tyler, of Malfie, and Mrs. Verda Huff , of Hindman [Knott Co., KY]; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Stone Coal Regular Baptist Church by Regular Baptist ministers. Burial was made in the Childers cemetery at Lackey under direction of Merion Funeral Chapel.
