The 1880 census of Breathitt Co., KY showed that that William and Delilah Higgins had a servant named Lizzie Gillum and a child Thomas Gillum 2 yrs. old.
William Jr. is buried in an unmarked grave on a hill across the from the Lovelys (Wm., Floyd, and John Miles) where they had their farms on the river road belowFort Gay, WVA. (according to Mrs. Hazel Lykins who remembers Wm. Jr.) From the
railroad tracks nearest the bridge, the hill where he is buried is 1.4 milesdown the river road on the right side of the road. There is a metal gate (painted pink) at the foot of the hill. This property is currently(1999) owned by Mrs. Hazel
Lykins who lives in a brick house with a large lawn just before getting to the cemetery. Oma Hazel (Lovely) Gillette Fry also remembers Wm. Jr. She said she was 12 years old when he died and she remembers him with average height and had a
long grey beard.

was living with her son Wm. Wellington when she died. She had moved in with him and his family from Fort Gay, WV where husband Wm. died in 1927 and is buried there. Delilah was the closest thing to a doctor in her day.She was a mid-wife and
people would come to her from all over the mountains for her homemade remedies, including the medicinal plants and herbs. Paul Wilmer(great-grandson) said that Delilah was Post Mistress in what is now called Lovely, KY and she used to deliver
mail to the McCoys of the Hatfields and McCoyfame. Lovely, KY
used to be called "Smokey Bottoms", because of all the shootings on Friday and Saturday nights. Delilah smoked an old corn cob pipe and wore long skirts with multiple slips under them. She was a little short woman.Sources of this info. was
