Icess Newsom, age 81, of Grethel, Ky., husband of Pearl F. Newsom, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. He was born January 13, 1929 in Grethel, Ky., the son of Robert Newsom and Effie Hall Newsom. Mr. Newsom was a Retired Coal Miner and a member of the UMWA.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl, a daughter, Bonita Devon (Zachary) Akers, Grethel, Ky., two brothers, Greely Newsom, Grethel, Ky., Lennis Newsom, Prestonsburg, Ky., two sisters, Josephine Frasure, Grethel, Ky., Linda Kay Spradlin, Louisa, Ky., two grandchildren, Tosh Brandon (Amanda) Akers, Shenna DeSha (Glenn) Spradlin, and two great grandchildren, Zachary Brance Spradlin and Blaine Douglas "Ike" Akers.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Morris Newsom, Alred Newsom, R.S. Newsom, Jr., and Rofolo Newsom, and two sisters, Geneva Ball and Joyce Hicks.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 09, 2010, at 12:00 Noon at the Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church, Grethel, Ky., with the Regular Baptist Ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Effie Hall Newsom Cemetery, Grethel, Ky., under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation is after 6:00 p.m., Monday at Hall Funeral Home, with services each night.

How is your mom doing? Better I hope. I went to Frankfort to get my mom's
birth certificate and they could not find anything on her. I told them
about getting a birth certificate on Pollie Jones so they looked again but
still could not find anything and they said that they should have been back
to back. So I am confused because I do not know if my mom's name was Pollie
Carlista or Carlista Pollie or if there were twins. I have not give up yet
because I am going to try one other place to see if I can get a birth
