She was born January 8, 1922, in McDowell, the daughter of the late Will Hamilton and Maude Hall Hamilton. She was a member of the Little Rosa Regular Baptist Church, at McDowell, and a former assembly worker in Parks Products, Dune Rubber, Inc., Ashtabula, Ohio. Survivors include her two sons: Curtis Tackett Jr., of McConnell, South Carolina, and Jeffrey Tackett of McDowell; four daughters: Gerlie "Ginger" McCarter and Alrita Shepherd, both of Prestonsburg, and Phyllis Ortiz and Dottie Barnes, both of Tempe, Arizona; two brothers: Homer Hamilton of McDowell, and Sam Hamilton of Beach Grove, Indiana; three sisters: Annie Moore, Ocie Moore and Gerlie Elliott, all of McDowell; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: Forrest Dean Tackett and Kennith Harold Tackett; five brothers: Harold Hamilton, Pearl Hamilton, Andy Hamilton, Lee Hamilton and Eddie Hamilton; and one granddaughter, Karla Darcie Shortridge. Funeral services for Veda Hamilton Tackett will be conducted Thursday, February 12, at 11 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with Elder Clinton Moore officiating. Born May 14, 1923, in McDowell, she was the daughter of the late Pearlie and Sadie Osborne Howell. She was a retired school teacher; and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Hi Hat.
She was twice married: first to Silas Jones Sr., and later to Tramble Tackett. Both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Tackett (Cleveland) of McDowell; a daughter-in-law , Dorinda Jones of Lexington; a step-son, Kermit Tackett of Teaberry; two step-daughters: Sharon Parsons of Teaberry, and Eva Hamilton of Banner; a brother, Ruford Howell of Columbus, Ohio; three sisters: Arnetha Spencer of Martin, Buna Bentley of Marysville, Ohio, and Helen Reynolds of Beaver; six grandchildren: Melinda, Stevie, Miki Lee, Christopher, Charles Andrew and Danie Lee; nine great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons: Silas Jones Jr., and Leroy Jones: a daughter-in-law, Greta Jones; a sister, Irene Horn; and an infant brother.Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 25, at 2 p.m., at theNelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with John Hopkins, RufordHowell, Jimmy Hall, and Clinton Moore officiating.

Arizona Tackett Brafford was born May 8,1931 and departed this world on January 8, 1996. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary Hamilton Tackett. At age 20 she married the late Carl Leon Brafford, and to that union were born four children: two daughters, Janice Brafford-King and Marsha Anderson, both of Pikeville, Kentucky; two sons, Randy Carl Brafford and Timothy Leon Brafford, who preceded her in death. Also surviving are one brother, Tramble Tackett, of Price, Ky.; five sisters: Wanda Hamilton, Daisy Mitchell, Kelma Tackett, Hulda Bishop, and Lou Spencer, all of Teaberry, Ky.; ten grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews. A special friend, Fern Sword of Robinson Creek, is also left behind to mourn Arizona's passing. Arizona was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church on Robinson Creek for over 24 years. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, and many of her relatives and friends drew strength and encouragement from her perserverance, as she suffered a number of serious illnesses, including cancer. From the beautiful life that she lived, all that knew and loved her should be comforted with the thought that our loss is truly Heaven's gain. The memories of her kind heart and sweet spirit will be written upon the hearts of those she left behind, for generations to come.
