Ex-Service Man Dies At Lowmansville February 23
Joe Howard, age 62, died at his home near Lowmansville on February 23. He had been in ill health for more than a year a sufferer from heart trouble. He was married to Phoebe Hall who died in 1911. They had six children, three girls and three boys, all of whom survive. They are Jarvey Howard, Columbia, Tennessee; Steve Howard, Jackson, Ohio; Dalpha Howard, Paintsville; Mrs. Dock Reed, Portsmouth, Ohio; Mrs. Jeff Reed, Paintsville, and Mrs. G. B. VanHoose, Manila. He also leaves three brothers and one sister, Steve Howard, Win; Jim Howard, Wheelersburg; Wiley Howard, Portsmouth, Ohio, and Mary Lemaster, Morgan County, Ky. He was an ex-service man, enlisting in the regular army in 1912. He was stationed in Mexico in 1916 where he received an honorable discharge. Mr. Howard was well known in Paintsville where he resided for some time.
1158. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Howard
Elizabeth was born in Magoffin County, Kentucky the daughter Joe Howard and Phoebe Hall. She was a member of the United Baptist Church and the Bridgeford Homemakers Club. She was married to Jeff Reed the son of Asa and Rebecca Reed. Their children are one daughter, Mrs. Etta M. (Reed) Baldwin of Lorair, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Reed of Lucasville, Ohio; and two brothers, Dolpha Howard of Dayton, Ohio and Steve Howard of Sciotoville, Ohio.
Jeff Reed, former Johnson County resident and son of the late Asa and Rebecca Reed, died Wednesday, June 30, in a Loraine, Ohio hospital at the age of 80. Born March 27, 1891, he was a World War I veteran, member of the Odd Fellows, American Legion, the D.A.V. and a retired Paintsville Water and Gas Company employee. His wife, Elizabeth (Howard) Reed the daughter of Joe Howard and Phoebe Hall, preceded him in death in 1965. He is survived by one daughter Mrs. Etta M. Baldwin of Loraine, three brothers and one sister, and two grandchildren.

JARVIE HOWARD, FORMER RESIDENT, DIES IN ARIZONA
Jarvie Howard, 55, died suddenly Wednesday, January 4, 1961, at his home in Phoenix, Arizona. A native of Johnson County, he was the son of the late Joe and Phoebe Hall Howard and was born October 1905. He left Johnson County eighteen years ago and had lived in Phoenix for the past two years, where he worked as a contract painter and mechanic. Surviving are two brothers, Orville Howard, Santa, California; Joe Howard with the U.S. Navy; one sister, Mrs. Betty Stidell, Santa Ana, California; three sisters, Mrs. Jeff Reed of this city; Mrs. G. B. Van Hoose and Mrs. Dockie Reed, both of Lucasville, Ohio; two brothers, Steve Howard, Sciotoville, Ohio; Delphia Howard, Dayton, Ohio. Jarvie was the grandson of Thomas C. and Lydia M. (Gullett) Howard and Jarvey and Mary (Hackworth) Hall.
