Mary Melinda McKinney was born March 12, 1917 and passed from this life May 7, 1987. She was the daughter of Anthony Howell and Larcenia Hamilton Howell. Mary was united in holy matrimony on August 21, 1933 to Levi McKinney and unto this union were born nine children. Four preceded her in death: Wheeler Kermet, Shelby Denzil, Juanita Carroll, and Estalene, who died as an infant. Sister Mary is survived by her husband, three sons and two daughters, Palmer McKinney of Craynor, Kentucky, Ovel Wilkie McKinney of Teaberry, Kentucky, Marvin McKinney of Geneva, Ohio, Imogene Hamilton of Indiana, and Joyce Gail Blankenship, also of Craynor. Mary leaves three sisters and one brother to mourn their loss: Alvanny Akers, Melvina Pelton, and Sadie Slone and Tan Howell. Sister Mary was also blessed with thirty-three grandchildren; two preceded her in death, and she leaves twenty-two
Sister Mary was a devoted member of the Old Regular Baptist Church for twenty-seven years. Mary was faithful to fill her seat until her illness. She was a good, loving mother and wife, and a good neighbor to her many friends. Sister Mary lived a good life and let her light shine around the community. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, but we know our loss is Heaven's gain.
Sleep on, Sister Mary, 'til we meet again around God's great throne.

Age 87, of Grethel, Ky., husband of the late Rutha Frasure Tackett, passed away, Sunday, May 7, 2006, in Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg. He was born December 20, 1918, in Grethel, the son of the late Emmit Tackett and Nan Hall Tackett, He was a member of the Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church, were he served as deacon. He also was deacon for Mother's Home Regular Baptist Church, Zion Regular Baptist Church, and New Salem Regular Baptist Church, and was a self-employed truck driver. Survivors include his son Donald Ray Tackett, of Grethel; one daughter, Dora Lou Roberts, her husband J.D. of Grethel; one sister, Frona Hall of Honaker; seven grandchildren, Jimmy McKinney, Stevie McKinney, Sheldon Roberts, Michael Roberts, Jody Roberts, Donna Branson, and Christa Campbell; 12 great grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Elma McKinney. Funeral services for Freel Tackett will be conducted Wednesday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m., at the Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church, in Grethel, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Tackett and Hamilton Cemetery, in Grethel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home. Visitation is at the funeral home.

NEWSOM, Tivis Newberry "Tee" 87, of Teaberry, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born on February 2, 1913, in Craynor. the son of the late Noah Newsom and Anzie Brown Newsom. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA Local No. 1399. Survivors include seven sons, Denver Newsome, Randell Newsome, Verl Newsome, and Ronnie Newsome, all of Teaberry, Shirley Newsome and Donald Ray Newsome, both of Beaver, Michael Gene Newsome of Grethel; two daughters, Joy Newsome and Ruby Newsome Jones, both of Teaberry; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Hall Cemetery, at Grethel. Serving as pallbearers were Darrell Newsome, Toby Newsome, Chris Newsome, Sannon Newsome, Lance Jones, Derrick Newsome, Stevie Newsome, and Darren Newsome. Honorary pallbearers were David Newsome, Stuart Newsome, Jeff Newsome, Greg Newsome, Trace Jones, Trevor Jones, Mark Newsome and Brad Newsome.
