Carmel Lee Akers, author of The Halls of Muddy Creek, age 74, of Grethel,Ky, died Wednesday, Oct.25,2006, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg,Ky. Born Oct.23,1932 in Grethel,Ky, son of the Late Amos Akers and Stella Hall Akers. He was a retired school teacher and author. Was a member of the Church of Christ, the Retired Teacher Association, Pikeville Historical Society, and the Betsy Layne Senior Citizens. Survivors include a brother, Donald Akers of New London,Ohio; two sisters: Virginia Mae Case of Grethel,Ky, and Nickie Hall of Harold,Ky. Preceding him in death were his parents, and two brothers, Ijellan Akers and Arvil Dwight Akers. Funeral services Friday, Oct 27, at 11:00 A.M., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin,Ky. Burial in the Lee Alley Cemetery, at Grethel,Ky.

AKERS, Pauline Age, 81, of Banner, died Friday, October 13, 2000, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center. She was born October 24, 1918, in Banner, the daughter of the late Elva L. Akers and Susan Weddington Akers. She was a retired beautician. She is survived by one nephew, Jay Akers of Louisville. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 15, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with clergyman Don Crisp officiating. Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Eddie Akers, Larry Akers, Tim Ryan, Chris Ryan, Tommy R. Ryan and Tommy A. Ryan. (FCT'S)
