Robert Holbrook, 89, died September 4, 2009 at his home in Whitesburg, Letcher County, Kentucky. A son of the late Abbot and Clemey Tolliver Holbrook, he was a brother of the late Mayo Holbrook, Rufus Holbrook, Marvin Holbrook, and Mary Taylor. He was a member of the Whitesburg First Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Opal Hall Holbrook; a daughter, Sharon Holbrook of Whitesburg; and two sisters, Beatrice Strouth and husband Wayne of Pound, Va., and Gertrude Hughes of Mentor, Oh. Funeral services were held September 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. Burial was in Green Acres Memorial Park at Ermine, Letcher County, Kentucky. Everidge Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
