Obituary: BRANSON, Viola (Holbrook), age 82, of Franklin, OH, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006 at Southview Hospital. She was born on October 12, 1923 in Mayking, Kentucky the daughter of Jesse and Sadie Holbrook. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Crawford Branson; 2 brothers, Woodrow Holbrook and Floyd (Pug) Holbrook; 4 sisters, Alpha Adams, Belvy Gilliam, Ella Slone, and Oda Spond. She is survived by two sons, Crawford Jr. (Marilyn) and Dewey (Lisa); and one daughter, Betty (Elmer) Evans all of Franklin; seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Inis Holbrook of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. 2nd Street, Franklin, OH with the Reverend Mike Hubbard officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 pm on Monday. Burial will be at Springboro Cemetery, Franklin, OH.

A 29-year-old Marine from Letcher County died January 3 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait.

Article in the Mountain Eagle Online Newspaper: January 7, 2009: Lance Corporal Chadwick "Chad" Allen Gilliam was the son of Paul Gilliam and Mary Ellen Cook Gilliam of Mayking. The cause of Gilliam's death remained unknown at press time.

Before entering the Marine Corps, Gilliam attended Lindsay Wilson College where he graduated with a master's degree in counseling and human development.

Surviving other than his parents are his wife, Corinne Marie Stewart Gilliam; one sister, Paula Regina Damron of Nicholasville; and one brother, Michael Wayne Gilliam of Mayking.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willard and Belvia Holbrook Gilliam, and maternal grandparents, Arlie and Edna Sergent Cook.
