More about Earl Muncie Meade:  Earl was a farmer and coal miner. He supported 18 children; seventeen who reached adulthood. His first 8 children were girls. His first home after his marriage was a log cabin where his first 3 children were born. He acquired hundreds of acres on Salisbury Creek, to insure each of his children would have a "house seat". One of his pieces of land was at Nowhere, Knott Co KY where he and Lizzie built their home and raised most of their children. He purchased his father's farm after the estate was settled. Because of a mining accident, he was unable to work. His family suffered hard times while Muncie fought for his workman's compensation. During these difficult times, he had to sell many pieces of land including the John P Meade farm which sold to his daughter Oggie Lee and her husband Edward A Slone of Ligon, Kentucky. He gave land to his children. Finally after his settlement was reached, his worries of supporting his family were over. His final years were difficult because of his arthritis and Black Lung. He died three weeks after being diagnosed with Leukemia.
