42. John Meade

John served as Ensign in fourteenth Virginia Regiment in the Revolutionary War from march 10, 1777 to ?
John died from wounds received while attempting to arrest a desperado for the killing of one Perry. He was register of probate of Richmond Co. GA
Hill will is not of record in Richmond Co. GA.


Elizabeth Crump

Elizabeth continued to live in Augusta for a number of years after her husband death. Afterwards moved to Nanclause, Green Co. Ga with he rchildren, who intermarried with the Taylor and Coxes. She died there.


118. William Meade

William married in Charleston, SC, left one son, of whom nothing is knownat this date.

Died in Jamaica of Cholera.

121. John William Crump Meade

Left Augusta, GA for the north, presumably New York City.
He died at the Village of West Farms, Westchester Co. NY (now a part ofNYC) and was buried in the burial grounds attached to the FirstPresybterian Church of that place.
Two daughters survived him and left issue.

54. Samuel Meade , Sr.

Ray Asplin descends from Samuel and Katy and has Gutbrodt lineage to 1600's Germany.

Went from VA to NC to SC to Pike Co., KY, to Fulton Co., and later to northern Arkansas, then by 1910 moved to Port Lavaca, TX, where he died in 1921.

67. Francis Wilkes

John and Elizabeth deeded land to sons Benjamin and Samuel in 1783 but not to Francis. This suggests that he left home while young.
Francis Wilks listed in the early 1800's in Patrick Co. VA and before that Franklin Co. VA as per deed records.
In 1840 Lawrence Co. Ohio census age 80-90 . Francis wrote to Henry Wilks, Bedford Co. from Quaker Bottom, Ohio (postmarked Uniontownship) in April, 1837, signed "your old uncle tel death ."


68. Benjamin Wilkes , Sr.

Benjamin remained in Bedford Co. at least until late 1791, for in 1790 Benjamin and Samuel Wilkes petitioned to build a grist mill on Crab Orchard Creek, Bedford Co; and on Oct 24, 1791, Benjamin and Sarah sold to Thomas Leftwich 175 acres on the north side of Goose Creek. Benjamin never appeared again in the Bedford Co records and could have gone to Grayson Co with the Osborns -- said by a descendant to be an "old family of Grayson" -- for a short period.

In 1796 John and Elizabeth Wilkes sold 250 acres to Benjamin; Benjamin in turn sold 156 acres of it in 1798.

John, Jesse and Benjamin drew lots in the 1805 land Lottery, when GA lands ceded by the Indians were distributed. Benjamin drew twice, both blanks.
George Oglethorpe County Deed Book C, pgs 30-31: John Wilks and Elizabeth, his wife, sold to Benjamin 250 acres of land for 100 pounds lawful money on the 29th day of october in 1796.

Benjamin bought 400 acres on Troublesome and Long Creeks, the deeds recorded in 1806 and 1807; 200 acres in 1806 from Nicholas Hawkins; and 200 in 1807 from Thomas Colley.

Benjamin died intestate in 1808. Olgethorpe County Wills: Agreement to division signaled by heirs. The widow, Sarah, Moses, Ozborn, Joel Wilkes, Polly, Benajah, and Sarah Wilkes. December 22, 1815.

His estate settlement divided 12 negroes, valued at $4425 and was recorded 11 April 1816.

The following fnformation was obtained from Rev. War records sent to Mrs. W. L. Hunt in Trenton, Tenn and was dated May 7, 1934....

Samuel Wilkes was born Oct. 24, 1764 in Loudoun County, Va.; names of his parents are John Wilkes and Elizabeth MEADE. He moved 'while a boy', with his parents to Bedford Co., Va. While a resident of Bedford Co., he enlisted late in 1780 or early 1781, served three months in Capt. John Trigg's company, Col. Marriwether's Virginia regiment. In the fall of 1781, served six months in Cpt. Newell's and John Slaughter's Virginia companies, was discharged in Mar, 1782. He was allowed pension on his application executed, Mar. 28, 1833, then a resident of Bedford Co., Va.

From the Virginia Pension Rolls of 1835: Samuel Wilkes of Bedford Co., Va. Virginia Militia: $30.00 Annual Allowance. $90.00 received. Pension started May 11, 1833. Age 70.

Samuel Wilks married Oct. 11, 1826 in Bedford Co., Va, Margaret Witt. He died July 1, 1837 in Bedford County.

Military service: A military veteran of the Revolutionary War. Much information was obtained from Revolutionary War Records sent to Mrs. W. L. Hunt in Trenton, Tenn dated May 7, 1934 and from the Virginia Pension Rolls of 1835 that had Samuel Wilkes of Bedford Co. VA as a member of the Virginia Militia.

Property was appraised by administrators Henry Wilks and Thomas Rider, and the last of sale buyers included Samuel Norman Wilks (son of Ben)

Military - late in year, served three months as Private in Captain Newele's Company of Colonel Merriweather's Regiment of Virginia for 9 months. Marched 150 miles to Petersburg, thence to Cabin Point, thence to Portsmouth, thence to North Carolina, back to Portsmouth and around the country watching for General Benedict Arnold, then back to North Carolina, and back across the dismal Swamp to Prince George Courthouse. In his second enlilstment, served six months beginning the fall of 1781 and was drafted and sent to Richmond and Williamsburg.

He began receiving Roevolutionary pension of $30 per anum 1782


Margaret Witt

The following information obtained from Revolutionary War records sentto: Mrs. W. L. Hunt in Trenton, TN dated May 7, 1934
"Samuel Wilks - R.11553
The widow, Margaret Wilks, in 1854 was living in Bedford Co. Virginia andthen give her age as sixty-five years, in 1857 she gave her age asseventy-two years. It is stated on November 1, 1858 that she died'sometime since'."
Bedford Co. VA records show that in 1838 "Peggy Wilks" was allotted awidow's dower of 47 acres on Crab Orchard Creek. In 1841 Samuel'sproperty was appraised.
