Obituary for Stella Bumgardner Mullins

Stella Bumgardner Mullins age 98 of Dorton passed away Wednesday September 7, 2011 at her residence. She was born at Dorton on February 14, 1913 to the late John Duran and Cora Belle Mullins Bumgardner Burke. She was a 1931 graduate of Pikeville High School, 1959 graduate of Pikeville College, a KY. Colonel, a member of the Pike Co. Democratic Women’s Club a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church since 1948, she traveled to 37 different countries, drove through the 48 continental U.S. states, visited the other 2, was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Old Regular Baptist Church and a retired school teacher. After retiring from teaching she worked as a U.S. Postal employee in Louisville. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Willard Mullins, one son; Lloyd Dale Mullins, one sister; Eloise Bumgardner, two brothers; Kermit Royce Burke, Teddy V. Bumgardner, two sister-in-laws; Leona Greer Bumgardner and Hattie Potter Bumgardner, brother-in-law; Carl Osborne. She is survived by six sons; Rondal (Pamela) Mullins of Southfield, MI, Willard Bruce (Sue) Mullins of West Branch, MI, James (Jean Ann) Mullins of Dorton, John (Margie) Mullins of Georgetown, Freddie (Carolyn) Mullins of Robinson Creek, Ralph E.”Kojak” Mullins of Dorton, two daughters; Willa Rose Mullins of Eagle River, Wisconsin, Dorotha (Larry) Burke of Louisville, three brothers; Norville Bumgardner of LaPorte, IN, Oliver (Peggy) Bumgardner of Bethesda, MD, Orville (Kitty) Bumgardner of Dorton, one sister; Helen Bumgardner Osborne of Long Fork, sister-in-law; Virginia J. Burke of Cadiz, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. at the Pilgrim Rest Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Bumgardner Family Cemetery at Dorton. Visitation will begin on Friday after 5:30 P.M. at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home with services beginning at 7:00 P.M. Services will be moved to the church at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday with nightly services beginning at 7:00 P.M. Active casket bearers will be Stella’s grandsons and granddaughters. Honorary casket bearers will be member of the Pike Co. Democratic Women’s Club.
