Obituary: Opal Compton Ramsey, 91, of Left Fork Island Creek, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at her home. She was born in Pike County, Aug. 25, 1915, a daughter of the late Jim and Stella Compton Compton. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pikeville Old Regular Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Ramsey; two daughters, Melissa Mullins and Zelda Ray; four sons, James William Ramsey, Tom Jr. Ramsey, Bobby Ramsey and Billy Ramsey; 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by three sons, Homer Ramsey and Burnus Ramsey, both of Island Creek, and Gary Ramsey of West Virginia; two daughters, Stella Gaulke of Island Creek and Mollie Adkins of Hurricane Creek; 32 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2007 in the Pikeville Old Regular Baptist Church with Pikeville Old Regular Baptist ministers and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Ambrose Howell Cemetery, Coon Branch, Island Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville. Visitation is 6 p.m. Saturday at the church with special services Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. The Appalachian News-Express, © 2007. All Rights Reserved.
