After James Alexander "Bud" Sparks died and their son, W A Jake
Sparks was killed in a logging accident, Julia Annis Tipton Sparks sold the
farm in Cades Cove and bought a farm four miles south of Maryville from J.
R. Everett. The deed called for fifty acres, more or less, dated March 18,
1909 to Julia A. Sparks, Mary June Sparks, Bertha Sparks, May Sparks, Jerome
Sparks, James Sparks, and Lucy Sparks for $2,000.00. Children of James

II. W A Jake Sparks b 5 Jan 1888 d 28 Jul 1908 killed on a logging train
above Tellico, TN. He was sitting on a flat car as they were being coupled
together and fell between cars. A telegram was sent that a young Sparks man
had been killed. Sam Sparks went to Townsend and sent a telegram requesting
that the body be sent to Knoxville, TN by train and that he would be there
to claim it. When the train arrived, Sam was shocked to find the body was
Bud's son, Jake. Jake was buried next to his daddy in the Primitive Baptist
Church Cemetery. The story is told that the reason Jake was logging was that
he thought he should be running from the law because he was playing with an
old gun and accidentally shot in the direction of a constable who jokingly
fell as if shot. Jake thinking he had really killed the constable, left home
quickly and was hiding from this terrible joke when he was killed by the
train.
