9. Nona Sykes
James (Harve) Sykes passed away February 24, 1938 at Praise,
Kentucky. He was born April 24, 1860 in Russell Co. Virginia to James W. Sykes &
Mary (POP) Bartley. He married Martha J. Hill who passed in 1928. He leaves 3
sons Levi, Burrell and Arthur all of Kettle Camp, Ky. Daughters Nancy, Nona,
Mrs. J. G. Fields (Eliza Sykes) Mrs. John Bartley (Lucinda Sykes). One son L. D.
Rans Sykes died in 1926. He was a member of the Sweet Home Church. The funeral
was preached by Dave Church, Alex Rakes, J. M. Gibson, Shade Standifer, John
Hess, Howard Callie, Ballard Baker and Ken Gillespie. Burial in Potter Cemetery
on Elkhorn Creek.
The golden gate was opened, a gentile voice said "Come" and with a kind word
unspoken, Papa entered home.
