Akers, Berry-- With cherished memories of our beloved dad, Berry Akers these words have been written with love and the utmost respect. The son of the late Andy and Polly Frasure Akers, Dad was born October 18, 1909 at Grethel and passed this life to join his heavenly Father November 23, 2001, making his earthly visit 92 years, one month and five days. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lexie Hall Akers, and precious little son Donald Ray Akers. Dad and Mom were blessed with 7 children: Hershel Akers of Amherst, Oh; Jurlene Hall of Collins, Oh; Charles Akers of Vermilion, Oh; Shirley Hamilton of Grethel, Ky; Janice Murphy Connor of Huron, Oh; Shadkick "Buddy" Akers of New London, Oh; Donald Ray Akers deceased. 21 grandchildren 35 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Dad was extremely proud of each of his children and grandchildren. One of the most joyous occasions for him was when he expected a visit from any of them. Whistling, he anxiously paved the floor, the curtains always rumpled from his constant peeking out the window until his loved ones arrived. Dad's memories were filled with truthful and sometimes very humorous stories of his experiences throughout the turn of the century. Visitors old and young took great pleasure in listening as Dad shared his stories. Visitors and telephone calls would come from various parts of our nation from folks asking Dad for information regarding their ancestors and heritage. Dad was pleased to be of help to them. Dad was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church at Grethel, Ky. There he served as deacon. He took his Christian responsibilities very seriously, visiting the sick and praying for the needy. Dad was always a good neighbor and friend to everyone. He was loved by all and all expressed their love for him. Dad was a faithful husband and loving father, a retired coal miner and construction worker. He lived by the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Dad developed lung and heart problems several years before his death. This condition left him very weak and rapidly progressed. He was no longer able to stay along or care for himself. He was hurt so bad that he could no longer attend church, but one thing we can say, Dad had so many good and faithful friends who came to visit him. We are so grateful to everyone for making his last days filled with joy. Brothers and Sisters of the church gathered in and had a special service in observance of communion and foot washing for him. Dad expressed how much he appreciated and how many blessings he received during this beautiful time of worship. and time spent with friends. Dad is missed by many. We miss Sad and Mom so much. Nothing is the same anymore. But we truly believe together they're in heaven, rejoicing and free from all sickness and pain. Dad we miss you very much. Love, your children
